What’s the right furnace filter direction?

If you are looking at a furnace filter, find the arrow that indicates the proper airflow direction. That arrow must always face toward the furnace and away from the return duct that carries the air in need of heating or cooling.

How do I install a furnace filter?

This is pretty easy once you’ve found the arrow mentioned above and inserted it with the arrow facing towards the furnace and away from the return duct.

How does a heat pump work?

A heat pump works by transferring heat energy from one source to another. In the winter when your heat pump is acting as a heating system, it extracts heat energy from the outside air (even in near-freezing temperatures), and transfers it into the air in your home. When summertime rolls around, it’s as easy as flipping a switch to change your heat pump to cool mode.

How does central air work?

Central air conditioning works by moving around air in your home until it reaches your desired temperature. Central air systems pull hot air from your home, work to cool it down by releasing its heat outside, then distribute the newly-cooled air through a system of ducts in your home. That way, every room is reaching the ideal temperature.

What is dual zone air conditioning?

A dual zone air conditioning system is a network of thermostats and duct dampers that regulates the amount of cooled air each zone (one or more rooms) receives throughout the day. Zoning technology allows homeowners to cool only the occupied areas of living space at any given time or to set different temperatures in different areas of the home.

When should I have my heating and cooling equipment serviced?

Your HVAC systems should be serviced before the start of each heating and cooling season. So, your air conditioner should have regular maintenance performed at the end of winter or the beginning of spring, while your heat pump or furnace should have its regular maintenance performed at the end of summer or the beginning of fall.

When should I replace my furnace?

There are a number of factors that contribute to needing a furnace installation replacement, such as its age, how well it heat the home, and if it requires consistent repair work. If it’s over 10 – 15 years old, it’s likely time for a furnace replacement—simply because this will improve your energy efficiency.

Which way does furnace air flow?

Forced air furnaces recirculate air through a home: pushing air (cool or heated) in, and pulling spent air back in for another cycle. So air flows from your ducts, through the filter, and into the furnace.
